Interview
Tips for a Career in Real Estate
How
do you decide which company to work for? Here's some areas to consider...
Regardless of where you are in the process, (contemplating which
real estate school to attend, already passed your real estate exam, or looking
to move to a different company) once you have made the commitment to pursue a
career in real estate, you can begin interviewing companies.
Interview Preparation
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!
·
Dress professionally.
·
Bring real estate career interview checklist.
·
Bring your resume.
·
Bring a list of questions you would like to ask.
·
Arrive approximately 10 minutes early to your appointment.
·
Send a thank you note after the interview.
Questions to Ask
Your interviewer may already cover many of these topics. But
these are a list of some items to consider. Your real estate school may also
have a list of questions to consider for a successful interview.
·
Is the real estate company independently owned and operated or is the company a
franchise?
·
What real estate training programs and continuing education are offered? What
is the cost?
·
What are the typical earnings of a first year real estate agent?
·
How am I compensated?
·
What are my expenses?
·
Are there minimum standards that I must meet?
·
Do the real estate agents work part-time or full-time?
·
Do the managers sell?
·
How accessible is management?
·
Is there a mentor program?
·
What type of facilities are available? What costs are associated with use of
the office?
·
What does the company provide for me?
·
If you are transferring from another company, ask if there are any programs to
help smooth your transition.
Next Steps
Some companies may require you to complete an application. Some
companies may require more than one interview. Ask about the process up front
so that you will know what to expect. During the initial interview many
recruiters are looking for information on your past job successes, your
realistic expectations, and your high energy level. Plan to spend enough time
in the interview to make sure that all of your questions are answered. You may
want to ask if you can have a tour of the office. Remember you are each
interviewing each other, you to see if the company is a good match and the
company to see that you are a good match for their environment.
